Birdwatching
A Pantanal bird watching tour is not-to-be-forgotten
experience for any bird enthusiast. No matter what time of
the year you visit, the diversity and the beauty of the
birds within the region has to be seen to be believed.
Whether you are an expert birder or have never tried
birdwatching before, we guarantee you will be amazed by
the Pantanal’s bidlife. Hyacinth macaws, the largest
parrots in the world are often seen in trees surrounding
the lodges that we use for the tours. Numerous other
species of macaws, parrots and parakeets, as well as
toucans, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, birds of prey, storks
and herons are abundant. On the night safaris you can also
see nocturnal species such as owls and nightjars as well
as potoos.
Photography
The Pantanal is a photographer's dream: You'll have ample
opportunities to photograph breathtaking sunsets, diverse
flora and fauna.
We are happy to help you take the best photos possible,
from recommending picture-perfect locations to waiting
patiently for the right light conditions.
Hiking
The trails surrounding the lodge allows guests to explore
a variety of ecosystems, including savannah, wetland, and
woodland. Most trails are loops, so hikers can spend as
much or as little time as they wish exploring.
Hiking enables you to view the flora and fauna of the
Pantanal up-close. You'll often see primates like Black
tailed marmosets, capuchin monkeys and black howler
monkeys, and be able follow them as they travel through
the trees. Grassland and forest species such as deer and
South American coati are abundant, and birding along the
trails is excellent as well. The tour guide is
knowledgeable about the Pantanal’s plants and trees, and
can identify common species and explain their medicinal
and culinary uses.
Boating
Boat trips provide an excellent opportunity to observe
giant river otters up-close. This is often a highlight of
visitors’ trips to the Pantanal. In the region of Porto
Jofre, we occasionally see jaguars along the river banks–
it is the experience of a lifetime! Other wildlife
commonly seen on the river are capybara and caiman.
Frequently encountered birds include kingfishers, egrets,
storks, herons, cormorants, anhingas and terns. We highly
recommend adding an early morning or evening boat trip to
your itinerary as it allows you not only to enjoy a
spectacular sunrise or sunset while viewing wildlife from
a unique perspective, but to listen to the nocturnal and
diurnal animals of the Pantanal’s wilderness.
Jaguar Tracking tour
This Jaguar Tracking itinerary is intended for a maximum
of 4 persons. The wildlife in the region of Porto Jofre is
fantastic and you have a very good chance of observing the
elusive and impressive Jaguar. While tracking down the
jaguars, you can see other interesting wildlife such as
monkeys, giant river otters, and numerous bird species
from our equipped boat. Our knowledge of the Pantanal
allows us to take you to the best areas for full
appreciation of the wild environment and a greater chance
to see the jaguar in the wild. To find jaguars we use an
indigenous instrument (esturrador), made of bamboo to a
make sound like the jaguar’s roar. Most of the visitors
who stay for five or more days will see a jaguar in the
Porto Jofre area. While we can’t promise that you will
see one, we do guarantee that you will see other
breathtaking wildlife during your stay. Smaller cats such
as the ocelot, as well as tapir, giant anteater, peccary,
foxes howler monkey, caiman and hundreds of bird species,
are regularly seen there.
Night Safari
One of the best ways to observe wildlife! We can do in
either of two ways: by foot or by vehicle. Walking at
night is best to hear, and to smell the fantastic
environment. Driving along the dirt
road “Transpantaneira” provides comfort and safety to
visitors while still spotting wildlife; we can also stop
and turn off the car for to enjoy the nocturnal sounds of
the Pantanal.
Family Tours
Our family tours are specifically designed to ensure that
all family members, regardless of age or interest, enjoy
the wonders of the Pantanal. Family tours will provide
age-appropriate activities for children, considering
attention spans and interests while remaining focused on
wildlife. Family trips are flexible, tailored to your
wishes and requirements regarding interests, activities,
terrain and accommodation. We ensure excursions and
safaris are suitable and safe for all participants and
that all members of the family are involved in discovering
the wildlife and ecosystems of the Pantanal.
Lodges
All of the lodges used by Pantanal Nature are located along
the Transpantaneira Road and have been selected for the
diversity of wildlife and ecosystems their locations offer,
as well as their access to activities that will allow
guests to gain rich insight into the region. The lodges
vary from very comfortable, with fully furnished, air-
conditioned rooms, ceiling fans, porch hammocks and
swimming pools to more basic accommodations, designed to be
harmony with their natural surroundings, but offering more
frequent viewings of many of the native animal species. All
you need to do is let us know your particular interests and
the style of trip that would best meet your needs and we
will select one of our lodges and design a tour for you.
